Theme of the Month for November: Core Values
What is a core value? The dictionary explains it as a principle or belief that someone views as being important.
You’ll find many business coaches working with clients to align their core values with that of their customers and employees so they work with integrity. Discovering your core values, whether that’s for work or personal development, helps us to check in with our life and ensure we are living with authenticity on a day to day basis.
Do you know what your core values are? Here are a few examples to help you decide:
This is just a small portion of the core values you can choose from but how do you pick just three that resonate with you?
Think about all the decisions you make every day. Why do you live where you live? Could it be that family or community is important to you? Do you work for yourself or are you employed? What influenced that decision: adventure or stability?
Take a look at the list above and see if you can see three core values that fit your life goals. Mine are Creativity, Health, and Freedom. Creativity is necessary for my work, and as writing is my passion, it matches my values for work and play. Having struggled with ill health, I understand the importance of good health and wellbeing, so this is an important value for me to concentrate on. I work for myself, am a single parent, and love to travel (solo or with family/friends) so Freedom is another core value that I fully resonate with.
Over to You
Have a look at the list and see which core values you are instinctively drawn to. If you struggle with this think about your character/nature: do you search for success over love?
Once you have your three core values clear in your mind, create positive experiences that will express these values in your life. For me it would be writing every day, taking time to fill my spare time with trips, and ensuring I get plenty of exercise, fresh air, and good food (creativity, health, and freedom).
Throughout the month I want you to be more conscious of your core values and try to align the things you do, places you visit, and people you meet with your values. Is it time to cull your friend list on social media so your connections are more fulfilling? Will writing a goal list for the next month help you grow? Using positive language when you talk to yourself instead of opting for the inner critic might help your self-respect.
