Motivational Advent Calendar: Door 19 #NewYearResolutions

Welcome to your Motivate Me Advent Blog Calendar!

Throughout December, I shall be opening a new advent door on a personal development technique or tip that you might wish to try that day or save for the New Year.

Door Number Nineteen: Ditch the New Year Resolutions

It might sound strange to hear me say ‘ditch the new year resolutions’ when I made my writing career based on this exact theme. However, we can get so wrapped up in the small stuff and the ‘I should do this’ that we forget to set ourselves meaningful goals that are sustainable and worthy of our time and effort.

My old lists used to read something like this:

Lose weight

Join the gym

Perfectly good resolutions but these are goals I regurgitate year after year without ever achieving anything of value.

For 2019 I’ve going to set a few deep and meaningful goals that I will enjoy working on and feel passionate about completing over the year ahead. I’m going to write something like:

‘I will be healthier and full of energy so that I am fit and able to travel to new and exciting places near and far, and continue to write my books this year.’

What is your big goal for 2019? Have you ever written a resolution list and managed to complete it? Do you prefer to go with the flow rather than set goals?

  1. I like this idea, but it’s just so easy to use it as a starting point… Isn’t it! Especially when you are thinking about duet and health… And Christmas and it’s excesses comes just before!!!
Definitely to lead a healthier life!!!

    1. Totally! Setting intentions is my blog theme for January so hopefully I’ll be able to share some useful tips on battling the overindulgence with a gentle approach 😉

  2. I don’t do New Year Resolutions either. Who wants to make a fresh start in the depths of winter? Instead I find a ‘word of the year’ to keep in mind in all my endeavours – e.g. focus, softness, openness.
