Motivational Advent Calendar: Door 16 #Volunteering

Welcome to your Motivate Me Advent Blog Calendar!

Throughout December, I shall be opening a new advent door on a personal development technique or tip that you might wish to try that day or save for the New Year.

Door Number Sixteen: Volunteer Your Time

Giving back to others makes us happier – fact! When we hear about the natural disasters around the world, we all feel that pull to do something to help. Many people are on hand to do just that, but what about looking around your local community to see if there’s anything you can do to there?

Volunteering at a homeless shelter over Christmas, collecting shopping for an elderly neighbour, or singing carols in a retirement home will all bring joy to those in need.

Take a look in your local press or online to find a charity or cause in your area that you can get involved with. It costs nothing to volunteer your time to help others.

  1. I used to love going to the old people home where my gran in law stayed, to talk to the elderly.
Many were suffering dementia or Alzheimer’s…
It made me feel good that I could make them smile for a while at least.
And I took the kids. They were younger then. No one would take children there to visit because it was a Dementia wing. But the delight on the faces of these old folk was amazing. They’d even get an old sponge football and play kick about, Zimmer frame and all, with Lil Man!
