Door Number Thirteen: Move More

Mince pies, extra serving of roast potatoes, Christmas pudding, alcohol, chocolates, mulled wine – no, I’m not listing what I had for dinner last night! At this time of year we all tend to eat more than we usually would. Visiting friends and family usually involves a meal or drinks. As lovely as it is to celebrate with loved ones we must remember that our bodies need a little tender loving care at this time of year too.

It would be so easy to sit on the sofa and watch the same old Christmas movies that they put out on TV every year. However, what if you allowed yourself just ten minutes a day to move more, get flexible, and treat your body to a workout.

I don’t necessarily mean heading to the gym on Christmas Eve (unless you want to!). A gentle walk around the block, yoga class, swimming, a fitness DVD in your Christmas pyjamas, or another activity that you enjoy will lift your mood and bring your body and mind back into balance.

What’s your favourite activity? Could you arrange a family or friends walk at the park with the kids and the dogs? What about a ‘netwalking’ session with your office colleagues during your lunch break? Find a way to move more this Christmas and then continue with your new routine in 2019.

  1. I love a walk in the park sounds and surroundings are amazing for your brain. I also joined a running group and will be doing my second 5k on saturday. Best thing ever for mental helath I say kellie.

    1. That’s brilliant! I used to run but my chiropractor told me I had to stop, it was so upsetting as I found so much freedom in running. I need to get back out and do some long walks.
