Five Minutes With…
Welcome to Five Minutes With… a new feature where I invite bloggers of all genres to tell us a little about themselves and their blogging journey.
Lorna - Gin and LemonadeToday’s blogger is Lorna who blogs at Gin & Lemonade, second place winner of Best Overall Blog at the Annual Bloggers Bash 2018.
Q1: When and why did you start blogging? Which platform do you use?
It all started as a drunken idea I had in Italy, years before I wrote my first post.
I’ve travelled since I was 4 years old, and I’ve been a wheelchair-user for longer.  Those two things are an interesting mix.
I wanted a place where I could talk about my travels, where the wheels where just an added bonus.
Gin & Lemonade actually started in 2010. I’d just moved in with my boyfriend in Edinburgh. It’s not the most wheelchair-accessible place in the world, and I figured a blog was a good place to share my travels and (mis)adventures on wheels.
I wrote for 7 years on, but I’m now self-hosted WordPress with the groovy folks at Lyrical Host.
Q2: What topics/themes do you blog about? Do you ever deviate from that theme?
All the topics.
I write about my life as a disabled person.  I’m also an American who has lived in Scotland since I was 12, so third-culture issues sneak in there sometimes, too.
I live in a house in the country with my husband (I married the boyfriend), our three-year-old daughter, some fish, lots of books, and computers that have names.
I’m a writer who procrastinates, so I write about not writing.  But I’m working on that part!
There’s also reading through my book-hoard, family travel, and conversations with my kid.
What was the question?  😉
Q3: Which of your blog posts is your favourite and why do you like this one so much?
I’ve been going a long time, so that’s a hard one!
A recent favourite is a road-trip post that included public embarrassment.  Those are my favourites to write, actually.

Q4: Do you have a top tip to share for any new bloggers that might be reading?
Be yourself.  Treat blogging like a conversation.  Readers are friends we haven’t met, but not everyone has to like us.
Q5: What’s your favourite social media platform?
