Five Minutes With… Lauren from Milly's Guide @millysguide #Blogging #MentalHealth #FiveMinutesWith

Welcome to Five Minutes With… a new feature where I invite bloggers of all genres to tell us a little about themselves and their blogging journey.
Lauren Ephithite compressToday’s blogger is Lauren who blogs at Milly’s Guide.
Q1: When and why did you start blogging? Which platform do you use?
I started blogging in March 2016. I set up my blog on WordPress and it was called Milly’s Guide to Happiness. Now I look back and can see that I was hiding behind my dog Milly by naming my blog after her! I had thought about blogging before – I remember setting one up around 8 years ago but never took the settings off private! I wanted somewhere to write about my blog, about my 30 before 30 challenge and also share photos of Milly and what she got up to! I wrote several blog posts from her point of view as well.
Q2: What topics/themes do you blog about? Do you ever deviate from that theme?
I now mainly blog about mental health, which has changed from when I first started blogging. I have become braver about sharing my experiences and I noticed that when I shared these other people found it helpful and inspiring. I am now very passionate about increasing awareness and campaigning about mental health issues. I don’t have enough time to blog about mental health so very rarely deviate from that theme! I don’t blog from Milly’s point of view – although have been thinking about reviving that through an email newsletter. I blog every week about gratitude with the intention to improve mental health. Each Friday I share my #FridayFive which is five things that I am grateful for that week. I encourage everyone to share their five things too – and love to read the responses!
Q3: Which of your blog posts is your favourite and why do you like this one so much?
This is such a hard question! I’ve got some recent posts which I love for my writing, that I really thought about the content or that it is about something I’m really passionate about. But this question encouraged me to look back on some of my older posts so this is one of my very first posts about Walking the Great Wall of China. That was one of the first times I really opened up about my mental health. I was truly honest about the tears, anxiety and illness that I experienced on this trip and the response that I got to it really encouraged me to open up more and step up my blogging.
Q4: Do you have a top tip to share for any new bloggers that might be reading?
Blogging is a great way to share your writing, learn new things and make friends. None of us know everything! There are supportive groups and other bloggers who are willing to share their experiences with you and help you learn. And if in doubt google it!
Q5: What’s your favourite social media platform?
I try and post on Facebook regularly, I love Instagram for photo editing but don’t use it that often and I’m still a bit of a Twitter newbie so would say that Pinterest is my favourite! I have a mixture of boards including mental health, wellbeing, reading, nails and food! I’ve also started running my own group board ‘Wellbeing Warriors’ which is a lot of fun.
