Five Minutes With…
Welcome to Five Minutes With… a new feature where I invite bloggers of all genres to tell us a little about themselves and their blogging journey.
Today’s blogger is Carol who blogs at Carol Hedges.
Q1: When and why did you start blogging? Which platform do you use?
I started blogging on May 5th, 2012. I used Blogger, as it was easy to set up by myself. I still use it, because I have too much going on to dismantle the blog and move to another platform. Besides, I’m scared that I might lose six years’ worth of posts!
Here’s the link to my VERY FIRST blog post!
Q2: What topics/themes do you blog about? Do you ever deviate from that theme?
I blog about politics, especially the awful way we EU citizens are being treated by the government and in the press over Brexit. I blog about writing, my own and other people’s, and I run a guest series called ‘The Pink Sofa’ where writers who’ve got a new book out come and chat about it. If you are in that category, contact me, the sofa would love to host you.
Q3: Which of your blog posts is your favourite and why do you like this one so much?
My ‘favourite’ post, in that it is still being added to, is probably the one called ‘A Journey to Myself‘. It’s autobiographical, relating how I decided to claim back the German nationality ripped from my Jewish family by Hitler. It’s been viewed over 8 thousand times ~ which is amazing.
Q4: Do you have a top tip to share for any new bloggers that might be reading?
Oh, gosh, what could I possibly say? OK then ~ don’t make your posts too long. People are just too busy to read more than a page. And reread what you’ve written several times before you publish it. Especially to start with. Be aware, if you’re blogging on any sensitive or controversial area then tact and diplomacy have to be used. And NEVER mention or quote anybody without their permission.
Q5: What’s your favourite social media platform?
I’m a TWITTER gal. I love the immediacy, the cut and thrust of debate, the cat pics, the idiocy, the fun and laughter. I’ve made and met so many people via Twitter (including you, Shelley) and when I recently went through breast cancer, I was amazed at the lovely messages, presents and support I had. (@carolJhedges )
