Any Excuse For a Party! #VenueReview #AfternoonTea @MalmaisonHotels

IMG_1117My wonderful mum celebrated a ‘special’ birthday recently and as our family is well known for throwing a party to rejoice pretty much anything – even the opening of a new bridge! – it was only right that mum’s 70th received the full treatment.

Born and bred in Leeds, but now living in the West Midlands, my mum is a Yorkshire lass through to the bone, so it was always going to have to be a northern bash to enable family and friends to attend without the added cost of them travelling to Birmingham.

Using my Yorkshire contacts (thanks, Auntie Vicky!), we decided upon a surprise afternoon tea at the Malmaison Hotel in Leeds which I booked for 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon. I organised everything with help from the lovely Aimee in events and then sat back and waited for the date. Read more

The Book Lovers Tag #AmReading

Book Lovers TagThe Book Lovers Tag

I spotted this tag on the fabulous Mint Tea and Elephants blog and thought it would be fun to join in.

Do you have a specific place for reading?

I have a few favourite spots. One is curled up on a comfy chair in my writing cave as it overlooks the garden. I can have a wistful glance at the shrubbery when I come across an incredible piece of prose I wished I’d written! The next is my bed where I’ll happily retire as early as nine o’clock if a new chapter or three is calling. My last favourite spot is in the garden languishing on a sun lounger with a glass of something cold. Of course, I live in the UK so this is a rare occurrence, but I can dream!

My Thoughts on Recent Events

The 22nd May 2017 is a day Britain will never forget. I’m not eloquent enough to write the kind of blog post that would do justice to the memory of the victims, nor am I calm enough to write a post free of foul language if I were to share my thoughts on the scum who carried out the atrocious acts of violence against our children. However, I needed to post something. I couldn’t write in my journal that night because my hands were still shaking and the tears were free flowing so much I couldn’t see. I’m pretty sure every man, woman, and child was in the same state. Read more

#WordlessWednesday Cadiz #Spain #Travel

It was my blogging pal Cathy, from Between The Lines who first introduced me to Wordless Wednesday. I enjoy seeing the selection of images on a variety of topics and was, therefore, tempted to join in.

Here is a selection of photographs from my trip to Cadiz in Seville last year. A beautiful place to visit.

Cádiz is an ancient port city in southwest Spain, built on a strip of land surrounded by the sea in the Andalusia region. The home of the Spanish Navy, the port boomed in the 16th-century as a base for exploration and trade. It has more than 100 watchtowers, including iconic Torre Tavira, traditionally used for spotting ships, and 18th-century Cádiz Cathedral, on the waterfront.

Established Blog is on the Move

Welcome to our new home!

on January 1st 2013 I published my first blog post. It was my way of announcing to the world that I was about to embark on a series of challenges, one for every month of the year, and I was going to hold myself accountable by blogging the entire process.

I survived that year, and achieved a host of challenges, and that blog grew from strength to strength. Over the past couple of years I’ve got to know the blogging world better, and I’ve made many friends within the blog-o-sphere. I also write a book blog here on WordPress so I knew I liked the platform and loved the support and sense of community.

For me, it made sense to up sticks and move. Being a total technophobe, I decided to skip the nail biting action of moving all my content from Blogger to WordPress and took the wimps way out by picking and choosing the most popular posts to re-post on this platform.

I’m still keeping my original post running as I know people do pop back to read older posts from time to time, but I shall be posting all my new content here.

I hope you’ll join me on my continuing personal development journey, and please feel free to engage with a like, a share, and a comment when you get a chance.
