Five Minutes With…
Welcome to Five Minutes With… a feature where I invite bloggers of all genres to tell us a little about themselves and their blogging journey.
Today’s blogger is Carmen who blogs at Wellington World Travels.
Q1: When and why did you start blogging? Which platform do you use? (WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr)
Since I have become a stay-at-home mom, I wanted to do something aside from taking care of our kids and our home. I told my hubby I was going to build a website, and he said yes. I bought a domain, register it, and that’s it! I have been blogging since January last year!
I am using WordPress. Actually that time I didn’t know there were other platforms aside from WordPress, but I am still glad that I chose WordPress.
Q2: What topics/themes do you blog about? Do you ever deviate from that theme?
From the start, I knew my blog is going to be travel related. I came from a family of travelers and aviation geeks. Travel is something I am passionate about. On my blog, I write about our world travels, family adventures, and expat experience.
I actually did deviate once! I posted a list of inspirational quotes. I try my best not to deviate from the theme. Travel is such a broad topic. I know (and hope) I can find something to write about.
Q3: Which of your blog posts is your favourite and why do you like this one so much?
Last year, I wrote a guest post about the places my son had visited at the age of 2. Somebody left a comment that my son won’t remember them anyway. So in response, I wrote on my blog the reasons why traveling with young children is worthwhile. Yes, they will forget maybe most of it. So what? Even as an adult I don’t remember every detail of my travel. So I am still going to travel with my kids around the world, even if they won’t remember them.
Q4: Do you have a top tip to share for any new bloggers that might be reading?
Never stop learning. The blogging world is getting bigger and constantly changing. And we only occupy a minute part of the internet. Don’t be contented with what you know now. Learn more about SEO and keywords. Learn about the different social media platforms and how they work. Learn about writing content and editing photos. Learn about basic HTML, plugins, customizing themes, etc. Learn about editing videos and writing a book. Learn about new ways of doing things. There is so much to learn. So never stop learning.
Q5: What’s your favourite social media platform?
My favorite social media platform right now is Twitter, in terms of promoting my blog posts and growing my followers. I can retweet tweets and engage in Twitter chats easily. Ironically, most of my traffic comes from Pinterest, not Twitter. I am still trying to figure out how to boost my presence on Pinterest and hopefully be my favorite platform in the future.
